Thoughts Of A Guy Named Mason

be scrappy

In more and more places recently I have seen that people tend to have 1 hyperfixated hobby, 1 thing they spend all their money on and because of that they end up having better art or photography or cycling gear than me or better resources for programing. But even if I put all my resources(labour and capital) into one interest, I simply so not have the disposable income of most people, I work less than a few hours a week at $15 aud an hour. I think thats $11 usd off the top of my head.

But, just like ive been doing, there is always a scrappier and jankier and cheaper one way to do something. From the essence of the linus tech tips scrapyard wars, or Evan monsma, or even hunter creates things.

When I went sailing a few weeks ago, I made a fair few friends who, like me, enjoy art and drawing. I had forgotten to bring my pencil so I used a pen. They thought I was crazy, they had their $20 pencil kit and I had a bic crystal. And I wasn't comparing, but if I were comparing, using a pen was not the limiting factor that made their drawings look better than mine. It was that they are both older than be and put all their time into art and have been for a lot longer than I've been casually doing it.
