Thoughts Of A Guy Named Mason

Film Photography

I havent written much in a while - even though I have had stuff to talk about. Im not quite sure why, I think I've just been busy?

Last week I shot my first roll of photography film.

a few weeks ago I brought an old 'for parts' film camera for 20 bucks off ebay. Specifically it was a Taron VIC from 1962. Taron was a small japanese camera manufacturer in the late 50s and 60s, there was very little documentation on what they did manufacture and when.

The seller of the camera had said the shutter didn't work, when i got it, it did not work. I spent the next few days fiddling with it in order to get the shutter working and what ended up being the solution was leaving it to warm up in the sun for a bit. And then it just worked like magic. So from that I believe it just has an operating temperature a bit higher than room temperature on a cold day. But it hasnt clogged up since then so i dont know?

I also got a few rolls of film, because it was my first time shooting with film I just bought some stuff that seemed pretty common and 'standard. I got 2 24 exposures of kodak gold 200, and 2 36 exposures of kentmere pan 400.

And also when I had to get it sent off to a lab. I sent mail for the first time, ever, I have never done it before.

I shot one roll of kodak gold to get sent off to the lab first so that I could make sure there wasnt anything detrimental with the camera that would burn the film like money in a fire. - There was not.

These are my 2 favourite shots from the roll. Wow I really do just love how film looks.

I don't have a hole lot left to say about this. Im gonna have a lot of fun shooting more film, I'm already half way through my first roll of kentmere.

Also, I have a school camp next week, I will certainly bring my film camera and spare rolls to that - partly because I don't trust bringing my digital camera when I'm around the irresponsible kids in my class, and partly because it looks cool.
