fucking google
I hvae ben slowly working to rely on google services ad little as possible over the part few months. And one of thr big things is email.
While I dont really have the ability to stop using my gmail address, as there are that many services or things I need for work or just regular use that dont let you change your email unless you right out actual paperwork... Well there is my workplaces payroll and rostering system and thats it.
Something I could do is stop using the gmail client? So yesterday I setup Thunderbird on my laptop and all went well.. Today I went to download Thunderbird on my phone and...
Bloody hell what is this... Now that's thr last straw I'm setting up a plan on how to stop using google play services on my phone.
My options are:
- switch to apple (too expensive)
- switch to Ubuntu touch (from memory this doesn't have a great telephony stack(SMS and phone calls))
- switch to degoogle android such as lineage OS (lineage OS is not actively supported. On thr phone I have)
... None of these options are great.. I guess I could say buy a dumb phone buy that complicates things because I need a phone to access WhatsApp and my work roster which are in applications, and non-negotiable.
So many bad options. I guess I'll buy a second hand phone that is supported by lineage OS and flash it?
