Zine and Printer
I made a photography zine. It is about aspiration.
This has been so long in the making weirdly enough.
The first idea for a zine was a juxtaposition between the natural and built environments, I shot photos specifically for that. I sent my film to the lab and then it got stolen out of their dropbox... It still has not turned up, the police don't know who took it yet and I have bassically assumed I have lost all 108 photos photos that were undeveloped. That was 5 weeks ago
I also contacted my local art gallery about selling a photography zine in there and they ended up making an entire new contract for me - because I am the first under 18 to try and sell stuff there.
2 week ago I realised I am not getting the photos I sent to be developed back, but I had told the art gallery I was going to put a zine in there, so I looked at some photos I had taken long ago and made a short sequence about Aspiration and slapped it together with some courior new. I think its pretty good, then I just printed it on my schools printer using some presentation paper I bought about 2 months ago when I first had the idea to sell a zine.
Now I finally have the paperwork, and I have the zines printed, and I can finally take them in this weekend.
Another, very important thing has happened.
There was a grant going out by a local community organisation to "advance student careers or education," about 2 weeks ago, just before the application closing I was told barely anyone had applied to it, I had known about it but hadn't until then had any idea what I could need money I can't get on my own for?
Then I designed a zine, then I realised I could get a printer.
Needless to say being one of the few applicants and having a request an order of magnitude smaller than the max grant application, I got it. I am getting the printer in 2 weeks at their meeting... cool...
I do not have any space for a printer...But the one I decided on (Brother DCP-T850DW) is actually quite small. So I have designed a way to hijack half a cupboard for space and I just need to rebuild the shelf and remove the doors, I started earlier this afternoon cutting wood to build a new shelf, I got about halfway through before I decided I was too tired to be using power tools. I'll finish it off tomorow and I also think I can use some drawer hardware I found laying around and some more plywood to turn the cupboard into a home for all my printing and laminating stuff (including my Canon SELPHY printer) as well as a home for all my postage stuff (stamps and envelopes). I just then need to find a new home for the super 8 film cameras also shoved in this cupboard and my shorts that were in a basket in there, but I think I can move things around, build a new shelf to move some cameras out of where my wardrobe actually is and I should be good. It is coming up on summer so its probably not smart to put this basket under my bed right now.
